June 1 ~ Computer-Interest Workshop
We will complete our discussions of genealogy software programs. We will cover several short topics such as merging files, generating research logs and "to do" lists, and the like. This will also be an opportunity to ask those questions we didn't get to in the previous sessions. Don't miss this meeting! What an opportunity to learn from this expert in the field of genealogy. Marsha is most well-known for her magnum opus Opening the Ozarks: First Families of Southwest Missouri, a four-volume work tracing the origins of the first 1000 pioneers who purchased land from the Springfield Land Office between 1835 and 1839. Marsha has been recognized by the American Society of Genealogy as a "fellow," a designation which puts her in a category of the top 50 genealogists in the country recognized for the scholarship of their published works. ~ 9:30 a.m. at The Library Center

This great resource won't be available to genealogists for awhile, but a historian who was commissioned to discover the identities of WWI casualties in an mass grave in France was led, in the course of his search, to the Museum of the Red Cross in Geneva, Switzerland. Read here about the wonderful records he found which will prove to be a boon to family members in particular, but genealogists in general, for those soldiers whose fate in the Great War was previously unknown.
