Genealogy-Beyond Basics is being offered through the OTC Continuing Education Department. The classes will meet at the OGS Library, 534 West Catalpa, from 7-9 pm on Thursday evenings from April 2 - April 30. A fee is charged and preregistration is required through Ozarks Technical Continuing Education Deparment, phone 417-447-8888. You may also register online or at 800 E. Central Street in Springfield. This course is offered by the OGS Education Committee.

One of our Ozarks counties -- Pulaski-- was named in honor of the Revolutionary War commander Casimir Pulaski. Today Illinois honors Pulaski during an annual event occuring on the first Monday of March. You can read more about Casimir Pulaski here.
A few years ago there was a movement afoot to change some of the street names in Springfield. Some of these names from which people were ready to detach themselves so easily were names historical import to Springfield. Let's not forget our history and the work and sacrifices made by those who came before us. |

February 25, 2009 workshop:
First Steps in Finding Your Immigrant Ancestors
Margaret Maulin will lead a discussion on finding information about your immigrant ancestors. She will discuss some of the things you can look at in American records to get clues and then talk about some resources for researching in Europe and he British Isles for more information about your family.
March 25, 2009 workshop:
