Ozarks Genealogical Society Library
534 W. Catalpa, Springfield, MO
2 February 2019, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Cost: Free for OGS Members. $10 for non-members.
Taught by Patti Hobbs, CG®
This will be a hands-on workshop, particularly geared to new genealogists. However it also might benefit those who think they have never received a good foundation about how to begin genealogical research, or they are unfamiliar with various online tools. Laptops (not tablets) are required.
This workshop will cover few records, but those few should be first resources for any genealogist. In-class practice will proceed with all attendees working on the same genealogical problem. Towards the end, if there is time, you will practice with your own families. Prepare by thinking of a relatively recent ancestor or relative for whom you have done little research and have their vital information at hand.
Because attendees are not expected to have subscriptions to Ancestry.com, all practice will proceed using other resources. After the practice family problem is worked together, there will be a discussion of other records to access. These records would require more advanced skills after fundamental skills are mastered.
Because of space considerations at the OGS Library, registration will be limited to 25 people. All those registering after the first 25 people will be placed on a waitiing list. If there are enough people a second class in the afternoon (say from 1:30-5:30) may be considered. A message will be added here about the status of the class and whether a second class will open when that happens.
